Gillian Anderson Confirms THE X-FILES Season 11 Will Be Her Last
Gillian Anderson has said in the past that this upcoming season of The X-Files would be her last time playing Agent Scully. I hoped that maybe she wasn't serious and that a few months down the road she would have a change of heart but that change of heart never came.
Anderson confirmed in an interview with TV Insider that she really is done after Season 11, saying:
“Given the importance The X-Files had in people’s lives, it’s great to have one more opportunity to end on a high.
“I’ve said from the beginning this is it for me. I was a bit surprised by people’s [shocked] reaction to my announcement…because my understanding was that this was a single season.”
With Anderson not returning to reprise her role, does this mean that this will be the final season of The X-Files? It's hard to imagine the series continue without her because she's such a core part of the franchise. It just wouldn't feel right without her. She's appeared in nearly every episode of the series! But, we'll just have to wait and see where this next chapter of the story takes her.
Regardless of all that, series creator Chris Carter says that “There are a lot more X-Files stories to tell. Whether we get to tell them is a question mark. The truth is out there."
The X-Files returns to Fox with its eleventh season on January 3rd. Would you want to see The X-Files continue without Anderson?
