GOD OF WAR TV Series Brings on Ronald D. Moore as New Showrunner
Last week we heard that Amazon MGM Studios scrapped everything that had been developed for their God of War series adaptation and that they would be starting from scratch.
The series was being developed by showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins, but he exited the project. We’ve now learned that Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, For All Mankind) has been hired to take over as its new showrunner.
Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus had completed multiple scripts for the series but Amazon and Sony Pictures Television decided they wanted to take the show in a different creative direction.
Moore has a great talent for strong storytelling and character development in the shows that he develops. He’s an awesome choice for this show and I think he’s going to deliver a badass God of War series.
Amazon previously described their vision for the adaptation: “The series follows Kratos, the God of War, who, after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard.
“When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak—his wife’s final wish.
“Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new Gods and monsters for the fate of the world.”
When previously talking about the series, Amazon Studios’ Head of Television Vernon Sanders said: “At the center of it all is this story of fathers and sons, and families, set against this giant epic landscape.
“If you never played the game, you will fall in love with the show and feel very much invited in. So we think it’s going to be huge.”
What do you think about Moore takin on the God of War series for Amazon?
