GOD OF WAR TV Show Casts Max Parker as Heimdall
The upcoming God of War TV show keeps moving forward and it just locked in another major piece of its Norse mythology puzzle. After recently landing its Kratos, the live-action adaptation has now found the actor who’ll bring Heimdall to life.
Max Parker has been cast as Heimdall in the Amazon series. Parker, who’s best known for his work on the Netflix series Boots, joins a growing cast that includes Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Teresa Palmer as Sif, Thor’s wife.
In Norse mythology, Heimdall is one of Odin’s sons and the ever-watchful guardian of Asgard. He stands watch from Himinbjörg, where the Bifröst meets the sky, keeping an eye out for any threat that dares approach the realm of the gods.
His abilities are next-level even by god standards, giving him heightened senses and near-perfect foresight. In theGod of War games he is a dangerous and arrogant antagonist who uses that foresight to dominate in battle.
The series’ official character description paints him as someone driven by insecurity and ambition. “Handsome and dynamic, he feels unappreciated by his father and underestimated by the rest of the family, and as a result Heimdall is constantly looking for ways to improve his position in the hierarchy and increase his stature and power,” reads the characters description.
It will be interesting to see what Parker brings to the character. At its core, the show centers on Kratos and his son Atreus, pulling directly from the emotional backbone of the modern games.
According to the series logline, it “follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”
Getting the series to this point hasn’t been easy. The live-action God of War was first announced back in 2022 with Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby attached as writers and Rafe Judkins set as showrunner.
Ronald D. Moore is acting as lead writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Moore’s résumé is stacked with genre-defining work, starting with his time writing on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager. He later went on to develop and co-develop major series like Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, and Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams.
The series is based on the God of War franchise from Santa Monica Studio, one of PlayStation’s most iconic action-adventure titles. Amazon’s description of the story says Kratos, the God of War, “after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard.”
