GODZILLA MINUS ONE Director Takashi Yamazaki Teams Up With Ridley Scott for Mystery Epic NUE at 20th Century
The acclaimed Godzilla Minus One filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki is heading to 20th Century for an original film project titled Nue, and he's bringing some serious Hollywood firepower with him.
The upcoming epic has landed at 20th Century with Ridley Scott's Scott Free producing, instantly making it one of the more intriguing projects currently in development.
While the studio is keeping story details completely under wraps, the creative team attached is enough to get movie fans paying attention.
Yamazaki will direct Nue, with Scott Free's Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss producing alongside Keiichiro Moriya and Go Abe of Robot Communications, Georgina Pope of Toho-Tombo, and Amie Horiuchi, who will also produce.
It's easy to see why Hollywood has been eager to work with Yamazaki. Godzilla Minus One became a global sensation, earning praise from critics and audiences while proving to be a major box office success.
The film also made history by winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, an incredible achievement for the long-running kaiju franchise.
Fans won't have to wait too long to see more from the filmmaker, either. His next film, Godzilla Minus Zero, is set to arrive in U.S. theaters on November 6 through Toho International.
Beyond his Godzilla work, Yamazaki has also directed acclaimed films including The Eternal Zero and Stand by Me Doraemon, which is sure to show he has plenty of range across genres.
For Scott Free, Nue is another collaboration with 20th Century Co-Head Steve Asbell, continuing a productive partnership between the production company and the studio.
Scott Free also has a busy slate ahead. The Dog Stars, directed by Ridley Scott, stars Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Guy Pearce, and Margaret Qualley, and is scheduled for release from 20th Century Studios in August 2026. The company is also producing The Riders, directed by Edward Berger and starring Brad Pitt for A24.
Right now, Nue remains a complete mystery, but Yamazaki has shown he can deliver massive spectacle while telling deeply emotional stories, and pairing him with Scott Free opens the door to something that could be really cool.
