GODZILLA X KONG Director Adam Wingard Will Not Return To Helm The Sequel
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire director Adam Wingard will not return to helm the next installment of the franchise for Legendary Entertainment.
THR reports that the “parting of ways is described as amicable and stemming from timing issues.” It’s also said that the door remains open for him to return for future installments.
Winger directed the last two films and he has said that he wants to direct one more film that will close out a MonsterVerse trilogy. So, that third film of his will just have to wait, if he even ever decides to return.
I never really cared for Wingard’s Godzilla movies, but they are studio films so no matter who they bring in to direct the next one, it’ll just be more of the same unless a strong filmmaker comes in with a badass vision that they’re willing to fight for.
Legendary recently hired Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings scribe Dave Callaham to start working on a script for the next Godzilla movie, but there are no details on the story or what it will explore.
Wingard is stepping away from the franchise on a high note, though. While I didn’t care for the movie, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is about to become the highest-grossing film of the five MonsterVerse movies that have been released.
Wingard has a few projects that he’s been developing over the years including a ThunderCats movie and an action movie titled Onslaught, which will most likely be his next film.
What do you all think about Wingard exiting the franchise?
