Legendary Pictures Starts Work on Next GODZILLA Movie with SHANG-CHI Writer Dave Callaham
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire went on to gross over $548 million so far since it hit theaters back in March. With numbers like that, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are obviously excited about jumping into the next movie, so they are.
Legendary has hired Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi) to write the script for the next film in its Monsterverse franchise, and I suspect it won’t be any better than the films that have come before.
Obviously, there are no plot details to share but I’m sure it will entail Godzilla battling other massive kaiju creatures as the human characters run around with no real purpose spouting off bad dialogue.
Adam Wingard, who directed Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is expected to return for the next movie, but that has not been made official yet.
The filmmaker has previously talked about wanting to close out a trilogy of films, saying: "The whole idea that if you've done two movies, like, maybe you should just go ahead and do a third because, as you said, there's a trilogy in there.
“I definitely think there's more story to this, and I think that I have more story to tell. But it just depends on how [Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire] does and how things kind of shape out.”
He continued: "I know that sounds like a bullsh-t diplomatic answer. But the truth is, If I'm going to be completely honest with you, I do have more story to tell with these monsters and I know where I'd go with it. I would be very excited to be able to come back on for another one if things worked out!"
Well, WB and Legendary are officially started developing the next movie, but it wasn’t mentioned if Wingard is a part of it or not.
