GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE Director Talks About Finally Realizing His Version of Godzilla
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is going to once again reunite Godzilla and King Kong, but this time they will team up to fight a common enemy. If you saw the ridiculous trailer that was released for the film then you saw that the popular giant creatures are sporting different looks.
The most notable change is Godzilla, who now has a pink glow to him instead of blue, which, as a long-time fan of Godzilla, I think is so dumb. The trailer that was released makes the film look laughable, especially compared to the recently released Godzilla Minus One, which was a Godzilla masterpiece.
Well, director Adam Wingard recently talked to Total Film about Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and teased what we can expect from the two creatures in the new movie. He explained that this was his chance to do his version of Godzilla, saying:
"Very specifically in the last film, I wanted Godzilla to have a continuity, to look the way that he had in King of the Monsters and the 2014 Godzilla, but then I didn’t get a chance at doing my version of Godzilla. So now I wanted to do different things with the spines, and try different colours. I didn't want it to just be random; it's part of the story."
He went on to talk about Kong:
“And similarly with Kong, I wanted to give him some sort of new look as well. We grew his beard out, and gave him a little bit more grey hair and stuff."
I’m just not a fan of what I’ve seen from the upcoming film, and I haven’t enjoyed the past few monster films that Legendary Entertainment has produced. The producers and filmmakers just don’t seem to have respect for these characters and they’ve dumbed them down so much. At least Toho is still treating Godzilla right.
In the upcoming film, “The epic battle continues! Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence—and our own. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire delves further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”
The film stars Rebecca Hall (Godzilla vs. Kong), Brian Tyree Henry (Godzilla vs. Kong), Dan Stevens (Legion), Kaylee Hottle (Godzilla vs. Kong), Alex Ferns (The Batman) and Fala Chen (Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).
