GODZILLA x KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE Test Screening Reactions Call Film "F–king Funny" But Godzilla is Sidelined
Legendary Entertainment recently conducted test screenings for director Adam Wingard's upcoming Monsterverse movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and as expected, the reactions are mixed. The movie is described by one person as being “F –king funny” but another fan was frustrated that Godzilla was sidelined in the film.
The last two films, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong were pretty disappointing movies, but some fans seemed to enjoy them because they are there to watch the two Titans battle on the big screen. While that was fun to watch, the stories and scripts for those films were not good.
As for this next chapter in the Monsterverse franchise, it sounds like it’s going to lean into the comedy, with X user Neb, saying: “Godzilla x Kong had a test screening yesterday and yall won't believe how f –king funny this movie is gonna be.” He added: “I didn't connect with GvK as much as I hoped I would because of the tone, but this one goes so much further in the silly direction that I might love it this time.”
Another viewer talked about how good the plot was but didn’t like how the director treated Godzilla, saying: "I enjoyed every aspect of Kong's plot but was very annoyed that Godzilla was sidelined once more. I feel Wingard doesn't treat Goji with the same respect as Kong."
They went on to add that "you'll get a kaiju fight every 20 min and half of those fights are in daytime," describing the movie as "very much entertaining."
So, maybe Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will actually end up being a good movie!? That would be a pleasant surprise.
According to the synopsis, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will pit "the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever."
The cast is led by Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Kaylee Hottle, Fala Chen, Alex Ferns, and Rachel House.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be released in theaters on March 15, 2024.
