GREEN LANTERN Star Aaron Pierre Says He's Putting in "Extensive" Work to Honor and Elevate Role of John Stewart

Fans are looking forward to DC’s upcoming series Lanterns, which will star Kyle Chandler as Lantern legend Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as new recruit John Stewart.

The series will focus on the “two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

Pierre voices the lion Mufasa in the upcoming origin story about the King of the Pridelands for Disney, and while attending the the film’s red carpet premiere, he was asked by ComicBook about his preparation for the role of John Stewart in DC’s Lanterns.

Pierre said of the series: “What I can tell you is that the team are just super, super excited to have this opportunity to bring this story to the people.

“And, so far as I’m concerned, I’m gonna do my very best to serve and honor and elevate in any way I can, John Stewart and the [Green Lantern] Corps. Hopefully, I serve that and it resonates with me.”

When asked what his homework looked like to prepare for the John Stewart role, Pierre replied with a one-word answer: “Extensive.”

So it sounds like the team that’s working on this series is committed to paying homage to the comic origin, while elevating the story to something that really plays well on screen.

I look forward to seeing this show come to life. Stay tuned for updates as the show develops.
