Guillermo Del Toro Gives The New HELLBOY Reboot His Blessing

I know most of us would have loved to see Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman get to make their Hellboy III film. They put the effort into making it happen, but at the end of the day, it didn't. Instead, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola opted to reboot the franchise. He ended up hiring director Neil Marshall to direct and David Harbour to star. This news was met with a bittersweet reaction from the fans.

It sucked that Del Toro was going to complete his Hellboy trilogy, but it's cool that we are going to get a new feature film vision of the character that is taking the R-rate route. Regardless, I'm sure that Del Toro was disappointed upon hearing the news of the reboot, but while speaking at the Annecy Animation Festival (via THR), the director endorsed the reboot and gave it his blessing:

"I don’t own Hellboy, Mike does. So, you know, he is the father of the character and if he wants to reboot it, it’s perfectly fine. I got to make two - that’s two more than I thought I would get to make … So you know, as far as I’m concerned god speed and god bless."

It's good to see Del Toro come out in support of the film. It doesn't sound like there are any hard feeling between anyone, which is good. Harbour even recently met with Perlman for dinner which was kinda cool to see.

The upcoming Hellboy film will reportedly adapt the "Rise of the Blood Queen" storyline. I hope that Mignola, Marshall, and Harbour end up giving us an awesome Hellboy movie to enjoy!
