Guillermo del Toro Reveals Cool Miniatures Used in FRANKENSTEIN
We’re just a couple of weeks away from finally seeing the movie that Guillermo del Toro was destined to make. His long-awaited adaptation of Frankenstein arrives in a couple of weeks, and the filmmaker just gave fans a behind-the-scenes look that highlights one of the coolest aspects of the production.
Del Toro shared nine new photos on X, showing off both his cast between takes and, most impressively, the incredible miniature work built for the film.
The images reveal sprawling courtyards, massive machinery, and towering buildings, all constructed in small scale to look enormous on screen.
It’s classic movie magic, the kind that makes you forget what you’re seeing is handmade. When you watch the film, you’d never know these sets were miniatures, but they absolutely are.
The craftsmanship on display is exactly what we’d expect from del Toro, a filmmaker who has dedicated his life to creating cinematic worlds with obsessive attention to detail.
He’s famously known for curating an entire second house just to hold his collections of film memorabilia, mythology, and art, so seeing him embrace practical effects on Frankenstein feels perfectly in line with his creative spirit.
Alongside the miniature sets, del Toro’s new photos include a striking shot of Oscar Isaac, who he says is channeling legendary horror artist Bernie Wrightson, plus another on-set image of Isaac in character.
There’s also a beautifully lit picture of cinematographer Dan Laustsen working his craft, and a moody shot of Mia Goth holding a skull, fully living up to her gothic reputation.
Written and directed by del Toro, and based on Mary Shelley’s timeless novel, Frankenstein also stars Jacob Elordi as the Creature, Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, and Christian Convery, with Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz.
Frankenstein opens in select theaters on October 17 before haunting Netflix on November 7.
