It seems like we've still got a long way to go before we see anything from Joss Whedon's Batgirl film. We know that he's still developing it and that Warner Bros. still wants him to do it, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all comes together. One thing that fans are anxious about seeing is who will end up being cast in the role of Barbara Gordon a.k.a. Batgirl.
One actress that wants to throw her name into the hat is Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Pitch Perfect 2, Bumblebee). During a recent interview with MTV International, Steinfeld was asked about the possibility of playing the character. She was very flattered by the notion and said that she would love to do it.
“Thank you! I’m not going to lie, that’s kind of what I was thinking. But I didn’t know what to say. I would love that."
Whether or not the opportunity will ever present itself is a different story. I like Steinfeld, she's a very talented young actress that I honestly think would be great in the role. She went on to say that the possibility of playing a superhero has always interested her:
“Yes, absolutely. Definitely on my bucket list, so, you know. New year, new me? Let’s see what happens.”
When previously talking about developing the film and casting the character, Joss Whedon said:
"I’m creating this character. I’m in a dialogue with her. We’ll see who joins that later on... I think this is somewhere where you go and find Batgirl and then you cast her... I’m not against movie stars. They’re great, but you need somebody who’s going to be just right. And, in a situation like this, the name carries a lot of weight."
There are four actresses who have been rumored to be up for the role, and they include Katherine Langford, Elle Fanning, Jane Levy, and Margaret Qualley. Nothing has been officially revealed or decided, but what do you think about Steinfeld possibly in the role of Batgirl?
