HALLOWEEN ENDS Will Honor John Carpenter's Legacy and Have a Tone Similar to CHRISTINE

Director David Gordon Green’s next Halloween film, Halloween Ends, is going to have a different tone than the first two movies. In fact, the film will have a tone more similar to John Carpenter’s classic film Christine.

I like that each of these films have delivered different tones, and when talking about Halloween Ends, Green shared with the Empire Spoiler Special podcast, “There's not a lot of games in it, there's not a lot of wittiness and retro joy. It's kind of a coming-of-age film, and it's a very different tone. And that's what excited me about it, is to have the three chapters that I've been involved in be very different from each other. They are all there to honor Carpenter, but aren't necessary just emulating him."

A coming of age Halloween film… that’s interesting. He went on to say, "I sent Carpenter the new draft of Halloween Ends the other night, and I said, 'If it feels too Christine, let me know.’ For Halloween Ends, it's just a love of Carpenter, you know. It's more than just, 'Hey, here's a character and a community that you've created.' It's, 'Here's an appreciation of your legendary body of work.'"

In case you need a reminder, Carpenter's Christine is an adaptation of the Stephen King novel, and the story centers on a teen who restores a classic car, only to realize the car has a mind of its own as it comes to life to kill the teen's bullies.

It’ll be interesting to see how something like that will be incorporated into a Halloween film. There’s no doubt that Halloween Ends deals with the impact that Michael Meyers has Laurie Strode’s granddaughter Allyson. We also know that the story will jump ahead four years. Allison is going to be a very different person after the suffering the trauma that she’s gone through.

Halloween Kills is in theaters and streaming on Peacock now. Halloween Ends is expected to hit theaters on October 14, 2022.
