HARRY POTTER Spin-Off FANTASTIC BEASTS Adds Jon Voight, Gemma Chan, and Carmen Ejogo
Director David Yates is already hard at work on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the new Harry Potter spin-off at Warner Bros. that centers on Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who journeys to New York to document some of the world's magical creatures. Eddie Redmayne is playing the lead role, Katherine Waterston is the female lead as Tina, and the cast also includes people like Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, and Colin Farrell in a mysterious role.
Now THR reports that three more actors have been added to the cast: Jon Voight (Mission: Impossible, Deliverance, Ray Donovan), Gemma Chan (Submarine, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, AMC's Humans), and Carmen Ejogo (Pride and Glory, Selma, The Purge: Anarchy). Nothing is known about their characters, but it's nice to see some diverse voices being added to what was until this point a predominantly all-white cast.
J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay (her first) for Fantastic Beasts, which takes place seventy years before Harry and his friends attend Hogwarts. Scamander eventually writes a textbook that becomes required reading for the students there, and this movie is meant to kick off a new series of films for WB. The movie arrives in theaters on November 18th, 2016.
