HAWKEYE - Clint Barton Will Reportedly Lose His Hearing in Marvel's Disney+ Series

A new report has surfaced revealing a possible big lot point that will be included in Disney+’s Hawkeye series. According to Murphy's Multiverse, part of the story will explore Jeremy Renner’s character, Clint Barton, losing his hearing throughout the series.

For those of you not familiar with comics, Hawkeye has been deaf in a few different story arcs and they feature the character wearing hearing aids. This aspect of the character hasn’t been explored in the MCU, but it would certainly be interesting if they did in this upcoming series.

According to the report, a recent casting call was put out looking for a "middle-aged Chinese audiologist, who works in a rundown building and is off-the-books."

The series is said to draw from Matt Fraction and David Aja's acclaimed Hawkeye comic run and at one point in that series, the creative team completed an entire issue without any spoken dialogue. Instead, the characters communicated through the use of American Sign Language. Kate Bishop, who will be in the series, also played a role in that story arc.

Clint Barton’s hearing loss might come from the villain Clown, who was previously rumored to be joining the series. Clown played a major role in the Fraction Hawkeye run and he actually stabs Barton in his ears with arrows, which obviously causes Hawkeye to go deaf.

Marvel hired Troop Zero directors, Bert and Bertie, a.k.a. Amber Finlayson (Bert) and Katie Ellwood (Bertie), and Saturday Night Live and Comrade Detective director Rhys Thomas to helm some episodes of its upcoming Disney+ Hawkeye series.

Renner is set to reprise his role as Clint Barton a.k.a. Hawkeye who will train Kate Bishop to become a warrior. In the comics, Kate has a high level of skill in archery, sword fighting, and unarmed combat. Kate also possesses a significant stock of fighting weapons. Bumblebee star Hailee Steinfeld is rumored to be playing Kate.

The series was originally supposed to be released in fall 2021 on Disney+ as part of Marvel’s Phase Four round of releases, but that date might have been pushed back due to the pandemic. All of the Marvel shows that are being produced will tie directly into the MCU movies, and they are being produced by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. Mad Men scribe Jonathan Igla is writing the series.
