HBO is Developing a HELLRAISER Series With HALLOWEEN Director David Gordon Green and More Details Revealed
We know that a Hellraiser TV series has been in development for a while. Well, HBO has made a deal to develop that series based on Clive Barker’s classic film franchise, and they’ve hired Halloween director David Gordon Green to helm the pilot episode.
The series will be written by Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Gallactica, Daredevil, Heroes), and Michael Dougherty (X-Men United, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Trick r’ Treat). This is some great writing talent! I love the projects they have worked on. This series has put together one hell of a talented creative team! I may not have been excited about this project before, but I am now.
It was recently reported that David Goyer was going to develop the project, but this team of talent is so much better! Farah Films’ Dan Farah and Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee (Ready Player One) are also attached to produce.
The original movie told the story of a man “who inadvertently opens a portal to hell when he tinkers with a strange puzzle box he bought during a trip abroad. The act unleashes gruesome beings called Cenobites, creatures from Hell.”
As for what we can expect to see from the series, it’s explained, “The idea is to create an elevated continuation and expansion of the well-established Hellraiser mythology. It is by no means a remake, but rather assumes the past mythology to be a given. The centerpiece remains Pinhead, the pin cushion-headed merciless leader of the Cenobites, the formerly humans-turned-demons that live in an extra-dimensional realm and are activated through a puzzle box called the Lament Configuration. The Cenobites come from hell to harvest human souls and keep balance between good and evil.”
Not a remake? A Continuation? Ok… Sign me up! This could seriously be a great series and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all comes together!
