HBO Locks in More Westeros With HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Season 4 and A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS Season 2
HBO just gave fans of Westeros a major reason to celebrate. The network has officially greenlit House of the Dragon Season 4 and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2, locking in more fiery Targaryen drama and heartfelt Dunk and Egg adventures.
This update paints a clear picture of HBO’s long term confidence in George R. R. Martin’s world and gives fans a timeline of what’s coming next.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere in January 2026, and the renewal for Season 2 arrives before audiences have even seen episode one. That’s a major show of faith from HBO.
Based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, the series follows knight Ser Duncan and his young squire Egg, who eventually becomes one of the most important figures in Westerosi history. Season 2 is currently planned for 2027.
On the Targaryen side of things, House of the Dragon Season 3 is set for summer 2026. The story will continue the brutal Dance of the Dragons, throwing Team Black and Team Green deeper into conflict.
Season 2 left fans bracing for an eruption, and Season 3 is expected to open with the Battle of the Gullet. Season 4, now confirmed, is targeting a 2028 release and is expected to follow the final stretch of events from George R. R. Martin’s Fire and Blood.
To mark the announcement, HBO also revealed new images from both shows, including a haunting shot of Rhaenyra staring down at her crown, Daemon drenched in blood mid battle and a warm moment of Dunk and Egg celebrating together.
Francesca Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president of Programming and head of Drama Series and Films, shared her enthusiasm for the years ahead, saying:
"We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the Game of Thrones universe.
“Together, HOUSE OF THE DRAGON and A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin's universe continues to be.
“In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have captured so beautifully. And this summer, HOUSE OF THE DRAGON is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet."
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms arrives January 18, 2026. With the slate now stretching through 2028, it’s clear HBO is fully committed to keeping the world of Westeros alive and thriving.
