HBO Max Head Says Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE is "Not a Precedent" After Fans Call For David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD

Following the success of #ReleaseTheSnyderCut with Zack Snyder’s Justice League coming to HBO Max, DC fans have turned their attention to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and want to see his original cut of the movie. The filmmaker has made it clear that his vision for the film was much different than the one that Warner Bros. ended up releasing.

When previously talking about the film, Ayer said: “My cut would be easy to complete. It would be incredibly cathartic for me. It’s exhausting getting your ass kicked for a film that got the Edward Scissorhands treatment. The film I made has never been seen.” He further explained:

“This trailer nailed the tone and intention of the film I made. Methodical. Layered. Complex, beautiful and sad. After the BVS reviews shell shocked the leadership at the time, and the success of Deadpool - My soulful drama was beaten into a ‘comedy’”

While there have been reports that David Ayer’s Suicide Squad might be coming to HBO Max, HBO Max boss Tony Goncalves recently was on The Vergcast and he explained that their Justice League plans are “not a precedent” for other fan campaigns.

"Look, [the Snyder Cut] definitely [is] not a precedent. There's different types of fandoms. My reference to the fandoms is the fact that we're in a space where consumers are loud. Consumers guide, and we absolutely have to listen as industry. But that doesn't mean that we will go and invest our dollars in every single fandom that exists."

So, it sounds to me like we shouldn’t expect to see Ayer’s version of Suicide Squad to show up on HBO Max. I’m actually curious about seeing Ayer’s version of Suicide Squad, but I won’t hold my breath.
