HBO Renews HOUSE OF THE DRAGON For Season 3

HBO has officially renewed House of the Dragon for a third season ahead of the Season 2 premiere. This news shouldn’t come as a surprise as creator George R.R. Martin previously teased that he was already working with the writing team on Seasons 3 and 4 of the fantasy drama.

Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films said in a statement: “George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon.

“We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”

The series is based on Martin’s Fire & Blood, which is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen. It’s setting up the epic war between the Targaryens and the Hightowers.

The Season 2 returning cast is Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans.

Additional returning cast includes Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham.

Martin and Ryan Condal, who also serves as showrunner, are co-creators and executive producers on the series.

House of the Dragon Season 2 premieres Sunday, June 16 at 9 pm ET/PT on HBO and streaming on Max.
