Henry Cavill Releases Statement on the Warhammer Cinematic Universe That He's Building
Last week it was announced that Hanry Cavill was teaming up with Amazon Studios to develop a series of films and TV shows based on the epic fantasy game Warhammer 40,000. The big news came shortly after it was announced that Cavill would not be reprising his role as Superman and that he would not be returning to The Witcher.
Over the weekend, Cavill made a statement on this ambitious new project which will see him and a creative team building out the Warhammer Cinematic Universe. You can read that statement below, and it also came with a video showing off the logo:
For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action. Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life. Partnering with Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo has been a blessing beyond words, without her we might not have found the perfect home at Amazon. And having a home like Amazon will give us the freedom to be true to the massive scope of Warhammer. To all of you Warhammer fans out there, I promise to respect this IP that we love. I promise to bring you something familiar. And I endeavour to bring you something fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen.
Our first steps are to find our Filmmaker/Creator/Writer. Watch this space, my friends.
For The Emperor!
This has got to be extremely exciting for Cavill, who is going to have more control over this franchise than any other project that he’s worked on, and it’s something that he’s very passionate about.
I will say, from what I’ve seen, not a lot of people seem to know what Warhammer 40,000 is, so this whole thing is going to introduce a lot of people to it. While Cavill has big plans for films and TV shows, one thing that I think everyone would benefit from is a show in which Cavill hosts actual games. That would be fun!
Warhammer 40,000 is set in the far future, “where humanity stands at the edge of what might be its brightest future, or its darkest age. The threats to humankind’s empire are many — traitors driven by the fires of ambition, alien empires sworn to reclaim the stars, and the corruption of reality by malevolent gods.”
Now that Cavill has control over the Warhammer and the upcoming projects, what would you like to see him do with it?
