Henry Cavill Still Wants to Play Superman and Says "I've Not Given Up on The Role"
While there have been rumors that Warner Bros. is moving away from Henry Cavill’s Superman, Cavill is still very much interested in continuing to play the Man of Steel for the studio. During a recent interview with Men's Health, the actor addresses the rumors and says he has not given up on the role. Hell, he still has the classic red cape hanging up in his closet:
"The cape is in the closet. It's still mine. I’m not just going to sit quietly in the dark as all this stuff is going on. I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into. I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.”
As far as we know, WB has no current plans for another Man of Steel movie, but maybe that is changing. Maybe Cavill is in talks with the studio trying to work something out. I hope he is! I actually really thought Cavill made a great Superman. He fit the role perfectly, and I’d love to see him take it on again in a new movie.
A year ago it was announced that WB was developing a Supergirl film with Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat, 22 Jump Street, The Cloverfield Paradox, Sonic The Hedgehog) writing the script. Since then there have been no updates on the project. WB and DC are keeping a lot of their future projects under a cloak of secrecy. I they made a surprise Superman announcement, though, in the near future, that’d be cool.
As much as I’ve enjoyed Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Shazam! I would still rather see a new Superman movie with Cavill back in the role with a great director attached to it.
Would you want to see Cavill play Superman again?
