Hideo Kojima Praises Netflix's Awesome Animated Series BLUE EYE SAMURAI

If you haven’t started watching Netflix’s Blue Eye Samurai animated series yet, this is a show that you’ve got to experience! I’m about five episodes in and it’s just such a damn great show! The story and character development are incredibly strong and I love the way this epic revenge story is being told.

If you won’t take my word for it, the series has been getting all-around great reviews and now Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima is also singing its praises. He shared on social media:

"I watched two episodes of the anime drama "BLUE EYE SAMURAI" which has been on my mind for a long time! This is fantastic! Killing, scenery, action, violence, eroticism! All the elements, colors, movements, and breaths beautifully depict the "Japanese appearance"! This adds to the enjoyment. A revenge drama by a blue-eyed samurai in a time of national isolation. Thematically interesting."

The series centers on a samurai in Japan's Edo period who is out for revenge. It’s described as a “provocative and visually stunning cinematic series” that “immerses the viewer in a world of vivid adult animation with a live-action edge. Set in Edo-period Japan, Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu (voiced by Maya Erskine), a mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise seeking the deliverance of revenge.”

Blue Eye Samurai will include an impressive voice cast that includes George Takei, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Masi Oka, Randall Park, Darren Barnet, and Brenda Song.

The series was created by Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2024) and Amber Noizumi, who shared in a statement: "Our story is a larger-than-life action-adventure that takes place 400 years ago, yet Blue Eye Samurai's themes are of the moment and the inspiration is deeply personal. We are grateful for Netflix's passion for this story and for their bold vision for sophisticated animated drama."

Producers also brought on Mulan director Jane Wu to help develop the series. You’ve got to watch this show if you haven’t already! If you have watched it, you can rave about it below in the comments!
