How Big Is Superman’s Role in SUPERGIRL? New Report Offers Details

It looks like Superman might have more to do in Supergirl than we originally thought.

When David Corenswet was confirmed to appear in the upcoming DC Studios film a couple of months ago, most fans assumed it would be a quick cameo. A pop-in from the Man of Steel, maybe a supportive cousin moment, and that would be it. But a new rumor suggests his presence could be a lot more meaningful.

According to scooper AxelTalksFilm, Corenswet’s Superman will appear in three scenes in Supergirl. These aren’t throwaway appearances either. The report claims the scenes play a key role in shaping Kara Zor-El’s emotional journey.

Another insider, Cryptic HD QUALITY, backed that up, though they added that Superman may only physically appear once.

So what does that mean? Possibly flashbacks, holograms, or some kind of Kryptonian projection. DC fans know there are plenty of ways to include Superman without having him standing in the room the whole time.

We already knew Superman was part of the story thanks to Milly Alcock, who confirmed his involvement during and interview last year. Alcock shared:

“Yeah, that day was really hard, it was, like, two degrees. He jumped right in the deep end. Yeah, that was a hard day. The whole scene was in Kryptonian. The whole scene was, yeah… Yeah, Kryptonian.”

All of this lines up with the tone of the comic that inspired the film. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely, takes a more personal and cosmic approach to Kara’s story.

Directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl follows Kara as she’s pulled into a mission of vengeance and justice after a brutal threat hits painfully close to home. Reluctantly teaming up with an unexpected ally, she’s forced to confront her past while carving out her own place in the universe.

With Superman reportedly playing a role in Kara’s development, it makes sense that DC Studios would weave him into the story in a way that reinforces her identity rather than overshadowing it.

Alongside Alcock and Corenswet, the film also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, Jason Momoa, Ferdinand Kingsley, and Diarmaid Murtagh.

Supergirl is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
