Hugh Jackman Might Not Be Hanging Up the Claws After AVENGERS: SECRET WARS
It looks like Wolverine isn’t ready to call it quits just yet. While Deadpool & Wolverine was billed as Hugh Jackman’s big farewell to the character, a new rumor suggests Marvel Studios has no plans to let him go anytime soon.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel intends to keep Jackman around beyond Avengers: Secret Wars, hinting that the studio could be crafting an extended future for the actor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Richtman claims that Marvel “plans to include Jackman in more projects even after Secret Wars,” which is pretty wild considering the X-Men reboot is already in development. Makes me wonder if there will be two Wolverine’s running around.
Jackman originally stepped away from the role after Logan, the emotional send-off directed by James Mangold, but was convinced to return alongside Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool & Wolverine. That film was promoted as his final hurrah, but if these new reports are true, it might just be another chapter in his ongoing journey as the fan-favorite mutant.
There’s even talk that Jackman could show up in Avengers: Doomsday or a potential X-Force project being developed by Reynolds. With Marvel gearing up for a full X-Men reboot under Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier, it seems the studio might hold off on introducing a new Wolverine for now.
Instead, Jackman could stick around in a mentor-type role as the Multiverse Saga unfolds—keeping him close to the action without closing the door on a younger version just yet.
The recurring “until he’s 90” gag in Deadpool & Wolverine might have been more than just a joke. After all, Jackman’s Wolverine has been a staple of superhero cinema for over two decades, dating all the way back to 2000’s X-Men. It’s hard to imagine the Marvel universe without him popping the claws at least one more time.
As for what’s next, Joe and Anthony Russo are set to return to the director’s chairs for both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, reuniting with Kevin Feige and the Marvel team.
The Russos said, “We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with Kevin, Lou and the entire Marvel team to bring this epic adventure in storytelling to new and surprising places.”
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
