Hugh Jackman on How Wearing The Classic Wolverine Suit Brought Him Closer To The Character
It’s pretty crazy that after all of the years that Hugh Jackman played Wolverine, he never put on the classic blue and yellow suit until Deadpool & Wolverine. Over 20 years of playing this badass character and fans finally got to see him in action in the costume and it was glorious!
Jackman recalled in a new video on Instagram how donning that costume for the first time resulted in bringing him closer to the character.
The clip starts off with Ryan Reynolds talking about how Jackman sent him and the other writers a “10-minute voice memo” pitching how this Wolverine should be the “worst Wolverine.”
Then on the subject of Wolverine’s costume, Jackman said: “When I got in the yellow and blue, I knew immediately it would work. It felt amazing. I felt more grounded, deeper, connected than I ever had before in the 24 years.”
He went on to say: “I was astonished at how we never tried it and never looked at it, but when I see it, particularly with that cowl, I feel more than ever before me, Hugh Jackman, is lost, gone. It’s just Wolverine.”
Fans were so happy to finally see Jackman in the suit and I’m sure it won’t be the last time we see him. Marvel has plans for Jackman’s Wolverine in the future, we just don’t know what that future looks like.
There are rumors that Jackman will return as Wolverine in Avengers: Secret Wars, but we’ll just have to wait and see if that’s actually true.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released on digital download on October 1, and the Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD release will follow on October 22. It’s also likely that the movie will become available to stream with a Disney+ subscription either before the year is over or in early 2025.
