In Case You're Wondering How the Characters of AQUAMAN will Talk Underwater, Here's Your Answer
Remember in Justice League with Mera and Aquaman had a conversation in a big bubble underwater? That was kinda silly because, as many of you already know, Atlanteans don’t need air to talk.
After fans criticized that scene and wondered if they would be doing that in the standalone Aquaman film, director James Wan teased on Twitter:
"Fret not, no 'air bubbles for dialogue' in my underwater world."
This led to a lot of speculation as to how the Wan would handle the dialogue underwater and apparently the fans have been overthinking it. While talking about the film with EW, the director made it very clear how he was going to have the characters talk underwater.
"People are overthinking it. They’re just gonna talk!"
So, the characters will speak normally while hanging out in the depths of the ocean. Wan then adds one other little detail. He says there will be a little visual effect as Atlanteans speak, and suggests sound waves.
I imagine that we'll get a little taste of this in the upcoming trailer for the film. I can't wait to see what that trailer entails! I've seen a lot of great stuff from the film, but most of the visual effects in that footage were unfinished.
Jason Momoa will be joined by Willem Dafoe as Vulko; Temuera Morrison (Green Lantern) as Tom Curry; Dolph Lundgren (The Expendables films) as Nereus; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II(The Get Down) as Black Manta; Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) as Murk; with Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring films, Watchmen) as Orm/Ocean Master; and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna.
Aquaman will center on Aquaman as a reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis who is caught between land dwellers that are always polluting the globe and his own people who are ready to invade the surface.
Aquaman is set to be released December 21, 2018.
