Inde Navarrette Reveals the Video Game Movie She “Definitely” Wants to Star In
Inde Navarrette has some big projects on her plate, but there’s one upcoming video game adaptation she’d jump into without a second thought. The actress has her sights set on the Call of Duty movie, and considering she’s a longtime fan of the franchise, it sounds like a pretty good fit.
Navarrette’s career has been taking off following the massive success of Obsession, which went from a small indie horror movie to the highest-grossing film of the decade and one of the biggest horror hits of all time. She’s also set to play Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot, but she’s already thinking about another major franchise she’d love to join.
During an interview with Collider alongside Ray Nicholson (Smile 2), Navarrette was asked what it would take to convince her to sign on for the Call of Duty movie, which is being developed by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) and director Peter Berg.
Her answer made it clear that she wouldn't need much convincing: “Nothing. It’s a phone call. It’s a text. If they call me, they’re like, ‘There’s a car outside. You gotta go.’ Definitely. I’m a big fan. I’m really excited to see what they do. As a fan, I would be excited. I’m a big fan. Yeah. Very excited.”
Navarrette isn't just an actress who happens to enjoy video games. She's a longtime gamer and former Twitch streamer who regularly played Call of Duty, along with The Last of Us and Red Dead Redemption. Her Twitch channel has since been scrubbed, but her love of gaming remains a big part of who she is.
Nicholson also wants in on the action, although he jokingly suggested that his accent might be an obstacle. He said: “I’m pretty sure that they want all Brits, and I have the worst British accent of all time. So I’m working with a dialect coach secretly, 24/7. But it would be an honor to work with Peter again.”
Outside of gaming, Navarrette is also a huge anime fan, and she's even used shows like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen to help sharpen her understanding of screenwriting and storytelling.
She previously explained: “I really dove into ‘Why is Jujutsu Kaisen so good?’ And I learned about timeline and about storytelling—how a person can have a monologue at the beginning of the episode that matters two episodes later or even at the end, and that person’s dead and you don’t learn it until then—and then attaching that to my screenwriting and trying to learn that way,”
As for the Call of Duty movie, Berg and Sheridan are looking to do something a little different with the popular military shooter franchise. Rather than making a movie primarily about weapons, military hardware, and explosive combat, they want to give the characters more depth and explore the human side of warfare.
Their approach could offer a fresh perspective on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which already has plenty of memorable characters and stories to draw from.
There haven't been any casting announcements involving Navarrette or Nicholson, but it's clear both actors would love an opportunity to join the film.
It's easy to see why Navarrette would be excited about the project. She knows the games, loves the franchise, and would get to be part of bringing something she's spent years playing to the big screen.
Now it's just a matter of whether Berg and Sheridan are interested in bringing her into the fight.
