INDIANA JONES 5 Story Details and Photos Offer First Look at Nazi Villains Mads Mikkelsen and Boyd Holbrook
We’ve got a couple of new photos to share with you for Indiana Jones 5! These images offer a first look at two of the villains in the film played by Mads Mikkelsen and Boyd Holbrook, who are Nazis. That’s right, Indiana Jones will once again be facing off with Nazis!
Empire offers our first story details for the movie which sees Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones in 1969, “living against the backdrop of the space race – but the American effort to beat the Russians to the moon brings with it some uncomfortable truths for Indy.”
Indiana Jones 5 co-writer Jez Butterworth offers some additional insight saying:
“The simple fact is that the moon-landing program was run by a bunch of ex-Nazis. How ‘ex’ they are is the question. And it gets up Indy’s nose…” Pitching Indiana – a man always looking to the secrets of the Earth rather than the stars – into the era of the astronaut finds him even more a man out of time. “It’s not just that the model of what a hero is has completely changed. It’s not just that they’re looking for something where there’s nothing up there – it’s like Reno without the gambling, or whatever his line is. But the people that are behind it are, you know, his sworn enemies.”
I honestly was not expecting to see Indiana facing off with Nazis again, especially in 1969, but here we are and I’m all in for the adventure! It’ll be great to see Indian Jones punching them in the face again.
Mads Mikkelsen plays the villainous character of the story Voller, who is “inspired partly by real-life Nazi-turned-NASA-engineer Wernher von Braun.” Mikkelsen talked about his character saying:
“He’s a man who would like to correct some of the mistakes of the past. There is something that could make the world a much better place to live in. He would love to get his hands on it. Indiana Jones wants to get his hands on it as well. And so, we have a story.”
The film’s story is said to blend “fact, fiction, fedoras and fascists – including a major action set-piece set at the Apollo 11 ticker tape parade in New York, thrown to celebrate the astronauts on 13 August 1969.” The photo below features a sequence that includes Boyd Holbrook as Klaber, “a lapdog to Mads, and a crazy one at that,” caught up in the middle of the celebration.
The James Mangold directed and Steven Spielberg produced film will be released on June 30th, 2023. You can check out a couple of previously released cover here and some photos of Indiana here.
