INDIANA JONES AND THE GREAT CIRCLE Is "Closest To" RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and THE LAST CRUSADE
I’m pretty excited about the upcoming video game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle as it looks like it will actually tell a great Indiana Jones adventure story. From what I’ve seen, the seems to have the same classic vibe as the original trilogy, which makes me happy.
The director of the game, Jerk Gustafsson, recently talked about the game shedding some light on what they were hoping to accomplish with the project and says that it’s "closest to" the films Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade.
While speaking to Xbox Wire, Gustafsson explained: "We spent countless hours just re-watching the films – especially the two movies that are closest to the game, which are Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Last Crusade.”
The filmmakers of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny probably should’ve done the same thing. He went on to talk about the MachineGames’ "invaluable" partnership with Lucasfilm Games while working on The Great Circle, calling it a "cave of knowledge" about Indy.
Production director John Jennings added that it's been "great" having to access to "people who worked with the Indiana Jones property for decades."
He added: "Having their input – I mean, some of these people know everything that has ever been written about Indy – and having them to bounce ideas off, and get some of their own input has been hugely, hugely invaluable.
“We managed to get access into some of the Lucasfilm archives as well, which for Indy fans has been an absolute dream come true, to get access to some of these things that perhaps not so many people have seen."
So, it makes sense why The Great Circle is "closest to" Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. Not only is the story set between the two films, but the creative team did extensive research to make sure they would tell another great story that is in line with the quality of those previous movies.
This is a first-person title is set in 1937, “sinister forces are scouring the globe for the secret to an ancient power connected to the Great Circle, and only one person can stop them - Indiana Jones.”
Director Todd Howard has been trying to get this made for over a decade. During a previous interview, he explained: "I am a giant Indiana Jones fan. It can be brought to video games in a unique way. The game is obviously: you're exploring stuff. It's about him. So if you're playing the game, how do you feel that you are indeed playing versus just watching? [...] We'll talk next year."
Bethesda's head of publishing, Pete Hines, previously discussed the project, saying: "Todd might be the biggest Indiana Jones fan on the planet. I'm not exaggerating even a little.
“Anyone who has seen the pitch has immediately said, 'oh my god, I have to play that game right now.’ It's going to be amazing and we think reaction to the announcement is going to be terrific."
The game is set to be released sometime this year in 2024. I hope the game ends up being as great as it looks!
