INVINCIBLE Creator Robert Kirkman Talks About The Big Picture of The Series and How Many Seasons Are Planned

The creator of the hit superhero animated series Invincible, Robert Kirkman, recently talked about what fans should expect from the upcoming second season as well as what the big picture is for the project. He talked about his overall goals and in the process revealed the planned number of seasons that he wants to make for the show to tell his story.

During an interview with Polygon, Kirkman was asked about the big picture and the goal of the story that he wants to tell, and he explained:

“I’m trying not to pin it down to a number, because it is somewhat of a moving target. I think in the seven-to-eight-season range seems like it would be enough. But there could be some things we move through a little faster, some things we expand. If we’re fortunate enough to go for a good long time, I think that would be enough to cover the entire comic. And there are some things along the way that didn’t get into the comic that I’d like to do. I think it’d be cool to have some episodes here and there that are completely original. So that’s part of the plan moving forward.”

There’s no doubt that fans would love it if the series actually ended up going seven to eight seasons! There’s certainly a lot of story to tell, but telling that story in its entirety all depends on if people continue to tune in and watch the show. The ratings have to stay strong, but as long as the creative team behind keeps pumping out good quality content, chances are Kirkman will get to realize his full vision.

There’s a lot of story to tell here and it would be a shame if the series ended before Kirkman was able to finish telling that story.

Invincible revolves around 17-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who's just like every other guy his age — except his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). The ending of the first season was insane as it ended with Omni-Man's twisted true intentions being revealed. I’m excited to see how the story continues to play out in Season 2!

The series also stars Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Gillian Jacobs, Zachary Quinto, Jason Mantzoukas, Melise, Mark Hamill, Mahershala Ali, Seth Rogen, and more.

The second season of Invincible hits Amazon Prime on November 3rd of this year.
