It Looks Like More Villains Have Been Confirmed For DC's SHAZAM!
Over the past year we have heard rumors of a group of villains that will be included in director David F. Sandberg’s DC film Shazam! Well, it looks like those rumors might actually be true.
Mark Strong’s Dr. Sivana won’t be in the only villain in the story, and if you don’t want to know who the other villains will be, I’ll throw up a spoiler warning to be safe:
SuperBroMovies has confirmed that Seven Deadly Sins are set to appear in DC’s Shazam!. This group of villains made their first appearance in Whiz Comics #2 in 1940.
The group consists of seven demons who are used to represent the seven deadly sins of Judeo-Christian religions. These demons are identified as Pride, Envy, Greed, Wrath, Sloth, Gluttony, and Lust. Here are some additional details:
The Seven Deadly Enemies of Man, also known as the Seven Deadly Sins, are seven powerful demons, based upon the seven deadly sins enumerated in Christianity, who serve as occasional foes of Captain Marvel. The Enewho can take control of both humans and superheroes. The Sins were captured by the wizard Shazam many years ago, and encased in seven mockingly cartoon-like stone statues, which were placed in the Rock of Eternity.
The first time we heard that these characters might be involved with the film came a year ago when some audition tapes for the film leaked out. Zachary Levi also previously teased the involvement of the Seven Deadly Sins.
The audition videos featured actors reading for the part of Billy Batson when the character first meets the wizard Shazam!. At one point, the wizard mentions how he is the last of the council, most of which had been destroyed by the Seven Deadly Sins. He tells him that Earth now needed a champion to save the humans from being destroyed by The Sins as well.
The report goes on to reveal the versions of the Seven Deadly Sins we will see in the movie, saying that they will bear a resemblance to DC’s New 52 counterparts. You can see an image of them below:
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
Shazam! opens in theaters on April 5, 2019
