It Sounds Like Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern Will Be in Multiple DCU Projects
Nathan Fillion will make his big debut as Green Lantern in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy. He will be playing the Guy Gardener version of the character, and it looks like he will also be appearing in multiple projects in the DCU.
Gunn was recently asked by a fan on social media about the Green Lantern series that was announced, Lanterns. The director responded to the question, saying: "The Green Lanterns show is not separate; Nate will play Guy in all parts of the DCU."
So that’ll be fun! It sounds like we’ll be seeing a lot more than we thought of Fillion’s Green Lantern! Finn Wittrock was previously attached as Guy Gardner in a Green Lantern series before it was redeveloped without him.
When previously talking about the new Gren Lantern series, it was described as “a huge HBO-quality TV event. It's already in development. And our vision for this is very much in the vein of ‘True Detective.’ It's terrestrial-based. It's got two of our favorite Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart starring that's in a True Detective style, type mystery and it plays a really big role leading into the main story that we're telling across our film and television. So this is a very important show for us.”
Gun also recently explained why he chose to play with the Guy Gardner version of Green Lantern in Superman: Legacy saying: “I really love the character from JLI especially, but he also fits the story I’m telling with Legacy.”
Fillion stars in the film alongside David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific.
The movie will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman: Legacy will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s expected to begin in early 2024, just on track for its currently scheduled theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
