James Gunn Confirms Nathan Fillion Is the Guy Gardner Version of Green Lantern in SUPERMAN: LEGACY
We recently learned that Nathan Fillion (Firefly The Suicide Squad), Isabela Merced (Transformers: The Last Knight), and Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) had joined the cast of James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.
It was reported that Merced would be taking on the role of Hawkgirl, Gathegi is playing Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific, and Fillion will be playing a Green Lantern. We didn’t know for sure what version of Green Lantern that Fillion would be playing, but Gunn recently confirmed that he will be playing the Guy Gardner version, which is what I was hoping for! Here’s the confirmation that he sent out:
The three new cast members join join David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
Guy Gardner is known for his brash and confrontational demeanor, and he has a unique blend of arrogance and unwavering determination. He was originally chosen as a backup Green Lantern but eventually became one of Earth's primary protectors. Guy's path has been marked by personal struggles and redemption arcs, often clashing with his fellow Green Lanterns and superheroes. He has faced numerous trials, including losing his power ring and experiencing a range of emotional transformations. Despite his abrasive nature, Guy Gardner has proven himself to be a resilient and loyal hero, fighting to protect the innocent and uphold justice alongside his fellow Green Lanterns.
Fillion is going to fit into this role perfectly and I hope that we get to see him as the Green Lantern in more DC films after Superman: Legacy.
The movie will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
The story will involve “Superman joining a world in which superheroes already exist.” These three superheroes are only a few and the may or may not be part of the superhero team, The Authority.
Superman: Legacy will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s expected to begin in early 2024, just on track for its currently scheduled theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
