J. Michael Straczynski's BABYLON 5 Series Revival Isn't Dead Yet; Here's the Latest Update
J. Michael Straczynski has been trying to get a Babylon 5 series revival going for years. When the animated film Babylon 5: The Road Home was announced, I wasn’t sure if that meant the revival series was dead or not. Then I started seeing reports that the revival series was dead, but that actually isn’t the case! This series could very well still happen! As of right now, it’s in a limbo state due to the writer’s strike.
TVLine reports that Babylon 5 is “one project that was still in limbo at The CW and is now, like many things in the biz, ‘on hold’ amid the WGA strike.” So, there’s still hope that the project could move forward at some point. When there is news to share, you can bet that Straczynski will excitedly share it as he always does when there’s an update to share with fans.
The new iteration of Babylon 5 is described as a “from-the-ground-up reboot.” In the series, “John Sheridan, an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background, is assigned to Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space, a port of call for travelers, smugglers, corporate explorers and alien diplomats at a time of uneasy peace and the constant threat of war. His arrival triggers a destiny beyond anything he could have imagined, as an exploratory Earth company accidentally triggers a conflict with a civilization a million years ahead of us, putting Sheridan and the rest of the B5 crew in the line of fire as the last, best hope for the survival of the human race.”
I really hope this Babylon 5 revival happens! It’s obviously going to take some time, but it’s great to know that there’s still a chance that it will get made!
