Jack Black Wants Pedro Pascal To Play Wario in SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE Sequel
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released this past week, grabbing the spot for the highest-grossing opening weekend of all time for an animated movie. It was such a fun film, and with those numbers, it sounds like we will absolutely be seeing a sequel! It especially seems likely when you consider the film’s final post-credits scene.
I’m sure the main characters will return, including Chris Pratt as Mario and Charlie Day as Luigi, as well as Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. I would also assume that Jack Black would return as Bowser, but the actor isn’t making any assumptions just yet. But whether or not he does get to return, he has a casting suggestion for the future of the franchise.
In a recent interview with GameSpot, Black said of the future sequel and his role in it:
"It's not a given that Bowser will return. You know, I did a few Kung Fu Panda movies, and it was a different villain every movie. They may do the same thing. You know, what if there is a more powerful, more evil villain? Then I may need to be turned to help Mario and the rest to defend our universe against some other unseen force of evil. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
Black then changed his tone of voice to that of a dramatic trailer narrator.
"Wario. Pedro Pascal is Wario."
This is honestly genius casting, and if they don’t do it, they’re just silly. Pedro Pascal has already proven he could play around in the Super Mario Bros. universe in a fun Saturday Night Live sketch he did a couple of months ago, and obviously he is a fan favorite right now in his shows The Mandalorian and The Last of Us.
I hope Jack Black returns (I really don’t see why they wouldn’t utilize him), and I hope they take his suggestion and call Pascal on board to play Wario! What do you think?
