THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE Has Two Post Credits Scenes, What Do They Mean?

The Super Mario Bros. Movie hits theaters this weekend and for those of you wondering if you should stay after the film for a post-credits scene, the answer is yes!

There are two post-credits scenes in the movie, and if you enjoyed the film and you’re curious about where the franchise might go in the future with a sequel, you’ll definitely want to watch them. One of the scenes pops up in the mid-credits and the second one plays after the credits are completely done rolling.

I had a lot of fun watching this movie. The movie may be getting mixed reviews, but it’s a movie that was made to entertain kids and Mario Bros. fans. The movie made me smile, I left the theater happy, so you won’t hear any complaints from me. You can read my review of the movie here.

This is the story summary:

While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt; Jurassic World and The LEGO Movie franchises) and brother Luigi (Charlie Day; It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world. But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find Luigi.

With the assistance of a Mushroom Kingdom resident Toad (Keegan-Michael Key; The Lion King) and some training from the strong-willed ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy;The Queen’s Gambit), Mario taps into his own power.

As for the post-credits scenes, if you want to know what they are, you can keep reading. If you want to wait until you go to see the movie, stop reading!

The first mid-credits scene features Bowser back after being defeated by Mario, Peach, and Luigi. It starts with him singing about his plans to kill them in revenge. As the shot zooms out, we see that Bowser is trapped in a little cage after being shrunken down in size. As of right now, he’s no threat to anyone.

The second post-credits scene is set under the sewers of Brooklyn and we see a familiar egg beginning to crack open. For those familiar with Yoshi, you’ll know what this means going forward.

If the film gets a sequel, it seems like Mario’s dinosaur ally will play a role in the story, which will be fun because Yoshi is a big fan-favorite character. It also makes it clear that the sequel will also partly take place in the real world as the egg is in the Swears of Brooklyn.
