Jamie Foxx Reportedly Offered The Title Role in Todd McFarlane’s SPAWN

For years Todd McFarlane talked about an Academy Award actor that was interested in taking on the role of Spawn in a new Spawn movie. Lots of fans speculated that actor was Jamie Foxx, and then the actor himself expressed interest in the playing the classic comic book character in a reboot. He was actually pushing hard for it.

McFarlane is now gearing up to finally shoot his Spawn movie and he's got to cast the lead roles! According to That Hashtag Show, McFarlane has actually offered the title role to Jamie Foxx. He hasn't officially accepted the offer yet, but if he's been wanting to play the role and his schedule allows for it, then I imagine he'll take it. The report says:

Foxx has yet to sign on for the role and his decision may ultimately be a major factor in how fast this project gets off the ground. Should he, or another actor quickly take on the role, however, they’ll be sharing the spotlight with another lead.

That other lead character will be Twitch, which is the character the story will mostly focus on. This movie is said to not focus on Spawn. MacFarlane previously explained:

"There's two big roles in the script. There's obviously sort of Spawn himself, although in a weird way it's not the biggest role, and then there's the cop. The cop is this character Twitch who's been there since issue #1. Twitch is the role in this one, and I sort of refer to him as my sheriff Brody, who is the sheriff in the Jaws movie. Although it was called Jaws, Jaws didn't really talk a lot in his movie, right? He just kind of showed up at the opportune time to make the movie worthwhile."

He goes on to elaborate on how his Spawn movie compares to Jaws, saying:

"It was sheriff Brody, the humans talking, chasing the fantastical thing that sort of made the movie, and to me, there's that element. Everything else is normal in this story other than (gesture) the shadow moves, and at times even when it moves, the cop just sort of thinks he's losing his mind so he doesn't even trust that the shadow's moving. If you're a bad guy, then this thing is going to come and it's going to get you."

He also said that Spawn himself won't talk in the movie. He'll just be this thing lurking in the shadows. It will be interesting if Foxx will actually still be up for playing the role even though the character will be lurking in the shadows.

Spawn only has a budget of $10 million dollars. It's set to start shooting in August and will be released sometime in 2019.

Do you hope that Jamie Foxx takes the role?
