James Gunn Says GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Is Bigger and Gives Us "Something Completely Different"
Fans at the Marvel Studio panel at Comic-Con earlier this month got their first look at James Gunn’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and the trailer that it showed was incredible! It got fans very excited for the upcoming sequel, but it also filled the room of 7000 fans in Hall H with sadness and emotion. It was beautiful, but it sure hit you hard. That footage was my favorite thing from Comic-Con.
The director confirmed that this is going to be the final film in the franchise that will bring the story of these characters to a close. Now, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn continued to tease the film saying it’s “bigger in every way” and that it’s “completely different” from anything that came before. Here’s his full quote:
"This is a much bigger movie than the other two movies, and it's a much more emotional movie than the other two movies. And it's a longer movie than the other two movies – it's bigger in every way." he said of filming Vol. 3, "It was really comfortable, actually ... I'm really familiar with the actors, so I know what they have to do."
"They've gotten better at their jobs so that I don't have to bash them around so much. In a lot of ways, it was really easy – it's really natural for me. I understand this. But I'm also really pushing myself and trying to create something completely different from what came before it, but that also honors what came before it."
Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula, added, "It definitely feels like the most epic. It's complex, and the characters are having to deal with that. It's very emotional for all of them. And then we're also dealing with the fact that this is the end of an era of sorts, and so there's a lot of emotion."
I’m not sure that fans are prepared for what this story is going to deliver. The trailer had fans in tears, imagine what the whole film is going to do! Some people might need to go to therapy after watching the film!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also feature the return of Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Sean Gunn as Kraglin/on-set Rocket, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, and Vin Diesel as Groot. New additions to the cast also include Will Poulter as Adam Warlock and Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary as well as Daniela Melchior, Nico Santos, and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm's Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Spacedog.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 23rd, 2023.
