James Gunn Announces Dick Grayson and Jason Todd DC Animated Film DYNAMIC DUO
DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn has announced an interesting new animated film project titled Dynamic Duo, which will focus on two Robins – Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.
Gunn shared the news on X, saying: “Over the moon excited to announce the newest DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation greenlit film for theaters, DYNAMIC DUO, the story of Robin… or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.
“The first feature film from the visionary Swaybox, a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI, a script from the wonderfully talented Matt Aldrich, produced with our partners at Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho. This is something special.”
The film will be a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI, which could look really cool. You can actually see what that visually looks like in a Swaybox reel that I included below. I’m really curious to see what they will do with the world of DC in this medium-blending art style.
While The Batman director Matt Reeves is involved with the project, this is not set in The Batman universe. We also don’t know if it will be set in Gunn’s DCU, but it would be fine if this is jut a standalone project.
As a fan of animation, I’m looking forward to seeing what comes of this project.
Dick Grayson, originally introduced as the first Robin, is a pivotal character in DC Comics. Orphaned as a child when his acrobat family, the Flying Graysons, was murdered, he was adopted by Bruce Wayne, who trained him to become his crime-fighting partner.
Grayson eventually grows out of the Robin mantle and adopts the persona of Nightwing, becoming a hero in his own right, primarily protecting the city of Blüdhaven.
Over time, he has led several teams, including the Teen Titans and the Outsiders, and has even briefly taken on the role of Batman.
Jason Todd is a complex character in the DC universe , best known for being the second person to take up the mantle of Robin, Batman's sidekick. Introduced in 1983, Jason's early portrayal mirrored his predecessor, Dick Grayson, but was later redefined as a more rebellious and aggressive character.
His tenure as Robin ended tragically in the 1988 storyline "A Death in the Family," where he was brutally murdered by the Joker after a fan vote determined his fate. Years later, Jason was resurrected in the "Under the Hood" storyline, becoming the anti-hero Red Hood.
As Red Hood, Jason struggles with his violent tendencies and a desire for justice, often clashing with Batman's more restrained methods.
