James Gunn Comments on Why He Chose Guy Gardner's Green Lantern For SUPERMAN: LEGACY
DC fans seem pretty excited about the fact that James Gunn cast Nathan Fillion in the role of Guy Gardner / Green Lantern in Superman: Legacy. Fillion is going to be awesome in the role, and I love that he’s going to play a big role in the story that Gunn is looking to tell.
On the social media platform Bluesky, Gunn was asked why he decided to choose the Guy Gardner version of Green Lantern and not Hal Jordan or John Stewart. The filmmaker responded, saying:
“I really love the character from JLI especially, but he also fits the story I’m telling with Legacy.”
Fillion stars in the film alongside David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific.
The movie will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman: Legacy will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s expected to begin in early 2024, just on track for its currently scheduled theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
