James Gunn Confirms GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Will Launch a Whole New Overarching Story For The MCU

It was recently confirmed by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige that Avengers 4 would bring an end to the MCU narrative that started with Iron Man back in 2008. By the time everything is all said and done, there will be 22 films that tell this epic story!

We aren't really sure what is going to happen with the MCU after this story arc comes to a close. Kevin Feige has said that it will be a completely new and different thing, and he said that he didn't know if there would even be a phase four. Technically, there won't be.

It's already been revealed that Spider-Man 2 will be the first film to be released after Avengers 4, but according to director James GunnGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, will be one of the big films that will kick off a whole new overreaching story arc for the MCU!

So, yes, Marvel does plan on doing another epic story that will encompass several films again, which is pretty exciting! With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3  playing a big role in launching this new MCU and James Gunn playing a big role in developing the future of Marvel films, I assume that the main focus of it will be set in the cosmic part of the MCU, but only time will tell. Here's what the filmmaker said on Twitter:

With the MCU relaunching after Avengers 4 with a whole new story arc, they are starting from scratch. With that being the case, this will the first phase of a whole new journey not the fourth phase of continuing journey. I wonder how many phases they are looking at doing this time around. Do you think Marvel is crazy enough to give us a new arc that include 22 more films!?
