James Gunn Confirms Plans for Catwoman in His BRAVE AND THE BOLD Movie

The future of Batman in the DCU is slowly starting to take shape, and James Gunn has confirmed that one of the Dark Knight’s most legendary characters is already on his radar.

While the filmmaker has been careful about what details he shares regarding The Brave and the Bold, he recently gave fans a small but exciting update that points to a familiar face stepping into this new chapter.

Gunn previously revealed that he expects The Brave and the Bold to arrive before the decade is over. He’s been a little more guarded when asked about the story’s direction, even teasing fans about whether Damian Wayne will be part of the film by saying they’ll have to “wait to see.”

But one character Gunn isn’t hiding interest in is Selina Kyle. When asked directly on Threads if Catwoman was part of his plans for the DCU, Gunn responded, “Oh for sure.”

Catwoman has always been one of Batman’s most iconic and complex allies and foes, so it makes sense that she’d be a part of this new story. Fans have already seen Zoë Kravitz’s grounded take on Selina Kyle in Matt ReevesThe Batman, but since that universe is continuing separately with Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Gunn’s DCU will require a fresh Catwoman alongside a brand-new Batman.

Naturally, that leads to the fan casting conversations and some names that have been mentioned include Ana de Armas, who was reportedly once in the mix for Reeves’ film. Then there’s Eiza Gonzále, Adelaide Kane (Reign, Grey’s Anatomy), and Euphoria star Alexa Demie, all of which have the charisma and edge needed to bring Catwoman’s duality to life.

Selina Kyle has always walked the line between light and shadow, balancing cunning intelligence with seductive charm and that trademark feline grace. De Armas and González, in particular, already have proven action experience.

Whoever ends up in the role, the most important factor will be chemistry with the DCU’s Batman. The dynamic between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle has defined some of the best Batman stories ever told, both in comics and on screen.

For now, Gunn isn’t revealing who his Batman will be, though names like 1923’s Brandon Sklenar have been floated by fans. With The Brave and the Bold still several years away but firmly on DC Studios’ slate, casting announcements will likely start to trickle out in the second half of this decade.

Until then, it’s exciting to know that Gunn isn’t overlooking Catwoman. If she makes her way into the DCU, it could set the stage for some incredible storytelling and a fresh take on one of Gotham’s most fascinating characters.
