James Gunn Confirms SUPERGIRL Timeline Is Set Between SUPERMAN and MAN OF TOMORROW

If you’ve been trying to piece together how the new DCU timeline is shaping up, James Gunn has confirmed exactly where Supergirl fits in relation to Superman and its upcoming sequel Man of Tomorrow, and it helps clarify how this interconnected story is unfolding.

Gunn, who has made a habit of jumping into fan conversations online, responded to a Threads user asking where Supergirl lands in the timeline. His answer was direct and to the point:

"In between Superman and Man of Tomorrow."

Supergirl hits theaters on June 26, landing right between Superman and Man of Tomorrow, which is set to arrive on July 9, 2027. If the DCU continues to move forward in a fairly linear, real-time way, it makes sense that Kara Zor-El’s story would slide into that gap.

Fans already got a taste of Kara in the DCU during her debut in Superman. She showed up in one of the film’s final moments at the Fortress of Solitude, storming in to pick up her chaotic dog, Krypto.

It wasn’t exactly a quiet entrance either, as she made her presence known with the unforgettable line: "Thanks for watching him, bitch!" Not exactly the polished Kryptonian hero we’re used to seeing, and that’s clearly the point.

The first trailer for Supergirl dropped back in December and teased something that feels very different from Superman.

Directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock as Kara, the film leans into a more cosmic, rough-around-the-edges tone. We’ve already seen glimpses of Krypton and even Jason Momoa stepping into the role of Lobo.

Alcock also revealed that she shares at least one scene with David Corenswet’s Superman, and that her very first day on set was filming opposite him. That connection should help tie the two stories together while still letting Supergirl carve out its own identity.

Supergirl lands in theaters on June 26, and it looks like it’s going to bring a very different kind of Kryptonian adventure with it.
