James Gunn Debunks Report That Robert Pattinson's Batman Is Joining the Wider DC Universe

There’s been a report going around recently saying that James Gunn and Peter Safran are “exploring the possibility of incorporating Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson's Batman into their wider DC universe.”

The news came from a source at Variety, so a lot of sites ran with it. I never shared it because I was told by another source that this report was “bullshit,” and now Gunn has confirmed that this report is, in fact, false.

Gunn shared in a tweet: “There are few reporters I love more than @adambvary - truly a good guy - but in this case, he needs to get a new source as this is entirely untrue.”

From what I understand, this was never ever in the plan, and Matt ReevesBatman franchise will be its own separate thing that will not tie into what Gunn and Safran will be doing with the DC Cinematic Universe that they are planning out. There’s currently a sequel in the works and two spinoffs involving The Penguin and Arham Asylum.

I really hope that Gunn actually ends up sharing their plans with the fans at some point once they get the green light from Warner Bros. so that all the false reports and speculation will stop! I’m really curious to see how they will handle the big reveal. How much of their plan will they reveal and how much they’ll hold back? I guess we’ll find out soon enough!
