James Gunn Declares Eagly Better Than Krypto, and Reveals Who’d Win in a Fight

James Gunn brought the laughs and some lighthearted DC Universe debates to San Diego Comic-Con, and fans got a clear answer to a fun but fierce question… who’s the ultimate DC super pet: Eagly or Krypto?

During his busy Comic-Con schedule, Gunn made appearances at the Peacemaker Season 2 panel and the fan-packed Peacefest event. Fresh off the promotional tour for Superman, this was Gunn’s first public outing since the film’s release, and he seemed ready to have a little fun with the crowd.

When the inevitable question came up about who’s the better super pet, John Cena and Gunn didn’t hesitate. Both backed Peacemaker's winged MVP. “Eagly,.”

Gunn said Eagly “is better behaved than Krypto.” Eagly’s lovable antics and loyalty turned him into a breakout star in Season 1. He’s the kind of pet who brings you dead rodents as tokens of affection and dishes out bear-hug levels of love, basically a bald eagle channeling golden retriever energy.

But while Eagly wins the “good boy” award, Gunn had no illusions about what would happen in an all-out brawl. “Krypto would win in a fight because he’s super strong.”

Superman's version of Krypto is a wild ball of chaos. He’s destructive, playful, and just a little out of control. From wrecking parts of the Fortress of Solitude to nipping at Superman’s heels, Krypto is a powered-up pet tornado with a cute face and a lot of attitude.

Still, Gunn’s got a knack for turning unexpected characters into fan favorites, whether it's a raccoon with a rocket launcher, a monosyllabic tree, or a hug-happy eagle. His love for his animal co-stars is clear, and they’ve become crucial pieces in the worlds he builds, both in Marvel and DC.

So sure, Krypto might take the win in a fight, but Eagly’s got something better… Gunn’s heart.
