New Trailer For PEACEMAKER Season 2 Brings Wild Chaos and Pocket Universe Mayhem!
Am awesome new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 dropped during the incfredibly fun Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and it’s everything fans were hoping for and more.
John Cena is back as Christopher Smith, and this time, the self-proclaimed hero finds himself in an alternate reality that seems like his ultimate dream world… but of course, things aren’t that simple.
The new trailer teases an insane story that sees Chris stumble into a parallel dimension that mirrors our world but comes with a major perk, he gets to be with Jennifer Holland’s Harcourt. He sees that the grass is a a lot greener on the other side of the fence. Naturally, he’s all in on staying there.
Leota (Danielle Brooks) ends up telling Chris, “No matter how great the grass is over there, you belong here with us.” He just wants to escape his currently life situation because he’s not happy with it.
As you might imagin, though, trouble follows as Frank Grillo enters the scene as Rick Flag Sr., determined to shut down this portal and stop whatever chaos it’s bringing. And, of course he’s looking to get revenge for the death of his son. That means a showdown with Peacemaker.
According to Gunn, Season 2 is about Chris dealing with the fallout of Season 1 and the struggle for acceptance. “He’s dealing with his demons from the first season, and the world isn’t accepting him as a hero,” Gunn said.
He added, “He discovers a parallel dimension and he thinks it’s the perfect universe; that’s the beginning of the story and it goes from there.”
The series will also feature some familiar faces from Superman including Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord. These heroes show up in the teaser grilling Chris for a Justice League interview, which is guaranteed to be hilarious. We can also expect some more surprises.
When we last saw Peacemaker, he had just saved the world from alien butterflies, only to end up sitting on his porch reflecting on life with the ghost of his racist dad, Auggie (Robert Patrick), now a twisted Obi-Wan-like presence. Chris also kept Goff, the butterfly who possessed Sophie, alive and inherited his father’s weapon-stocked house. Season 2 looks ready to dig deeper into that baggage.
The official logline teases: Christopher “Chris” Smith, aka Peacemaker, struggles to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose while continuing to kick righteous evil-doer butt in his misguided quest for peace at any cost. Peacemaker will face relentless pursuit by Rick Flag Sr. as a direct consequence of his reprehensible past actions.
This panel was the big Comic-Con event this year, especially with Marvel Studios skipping the event. It was the biggest day in Hall H.
Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Season 2 and directed three, including the premiere. Other directors this season include Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Althea Jones.
Peacemaker Season 2 premieres August 21 at 9 PM ET/PT on HBO Max.
