James Gunn is Negotiating His Possible GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Exit and His Script Will Be Used
Turns out the rumors reported earlier today regarding James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script not being used by Marvel may not actually be accurate. A recent report from THR is now saying that "Disney is planning on using Gunn's script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
They are also reporting that Gunn is currently locked in "complicated negotiations with Disney over his exit settlement." Due to his 'pay or play' status with the studio Gunn will likely get a $7 to $10 million settlement because he is said to be entitled to what they would have paid him had he actually worked on the film.
There are also two inside sources saying there's hope that the filmmaker will return to Marvel Studios "either to helm Vol. 3 or to take charge of another movie for them somewhere down the line." An official decision has yet to be made as Marvel is still in conversations with how to handle the situation.
This is definitely much better news than the rumors we've been hearing. It's good to hear that there's at least a chance that Gunn could come back to Marvel to direct something.
