James Gunn on Casting Superman and What He's Looking for in SUPERMAN: LEGACY

After James Gunn is done promoting his upcoming Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he is going to fully immerse himself into developing his Superman: Legacy movie. The film is currently in pre-production, the script is finished, designs are being created, and the casting process is going to start shortly.

A lot of fans are curious to see who Gunn will cast in the movie as Superman. There have been a ton of rumors, but Gunn continues to shut those rumors down. While he isn’t revealing any actors that he’s considering for the role, he did offer some insight into the qualities that he’s looking for in an actor:

"It's hard, but we're looking, and we actually have some really great choices, which I'm excited about. But it has to be somebody who has all of the humanity that Superman has, but he's also an alien. It's gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has. And it has to be somebody that you want to give a hug."

Can you think of any actor that fits that description… other than Henry Cavill because we know that’s unfortunately not happening. What other actors do you think would make a great Clark Kent / Superman?

Superman: Legacy will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman: Legacy is scheduled to open in theaters on July 11, 2025
