James Gunn Reportedly Writing BOOSTER GOLD Project and OZARK Showrunner Joins LANTERNS Series
A new report has surfaced regarding a couple of high-profile DC series projects including Booster Gold and the Green Lantern series Lanterns.
According to John Rocha on The Hot Mic podcast, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn might actually be writing some episodes for the series with Jody Hill (Peacemaker) directing. He said: "DC might be looking at Jody Hill to direct the Booster Gold series with James Gunn possibly writing some of the episodes."
If Gunn is actually involving himself with this project, it seems like it’s something he’s passionate about and it must also play an important part in the DC cinematic universe that he’s building. I can also see his writing and comedic style working well for the character.
When talking about Booster Gold, Gunn said: “This is an absolute fan favorite. It's about a loser from the future, who uses basic future technology to come back to today and pretend to be a superhero. It's a series like all the other series for HBO Max. Booster Gold is imposter syndrome as a superhero.”
As far as Lanterns goes, Rocha shared that Ozark showrunner Chris Mundy has been hired as the showrunner of the series. This is the second time this report has popped up, so there’s a good chance that it’s true. It seems like Mundy would be a solid choice. He also worked on Criminal Minds.
When talking about that series Gunn and Peter Safran said: “Lanterns is a huge HBO-quality TV event. It's already in development. And our vision for this is very much in the vein of ‘True Detective.’ It's terrestrial-based. It's got two of our favorite Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart starring that's in a True Detective-style style, type mystery and it plays a really big role leading into the main story that we're telling across our film and television. So this is a very important show for us.”
There is a rumor going around that Channing Tatum could be in the running to play Hal Jordan, but that’s hard to believe for me. Who knows, though, we’ll eventually see how things shake out for these shows.
Are you excited about either of these DC shows? Do you think that DC Studios is actually going to start pumping out quality DC films?
