James Gunn Says His DCU Will Incorporate Moments From the DCEU, Making Them Canon

James Gunn DCU is going to get a bit more confusing as he is looking to incorporate moments from the DCEU into the new DC Cinematic Universe that he is building.

Gunn’s DCU was supposed to be a whole new DC franchise that isn’t connected to any of the previous films that have been made, but apparently there are going to be connections.

While speaking at a New York Comic Con panel Gunn says revealed some elements of the previous universe will be canon in this new universe.

He said: “There are references to things that happened in the past, and those references then become canon in the DCU because we mention them.”

While Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and more are being rebooted, Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker are definitely crossing over into this new universe, and maybe that’s what he is referring to.

The first project to be released by DC Studios is Creature Commandos, which is connected to the Suicide Squad in certain ways. We also know that Blue Beetle will be a part of Gunn’s new DC Universe.

As for the Man of Steel, Justice League, The Flash, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman films, I don’t think any of those will be mentioned in the DCU. Things will get pretty confusing if they are, though.

I think it would’ve been better had Gunn just made a clean break from anything that came before. But, as long as Gunn tells some great stories, I think fans will embrace the new direction.
